The Michigan Taxidermist Association was formed in 1983. The common goals of the founding members were to:
1) Promote high quality in the art of taxidermy
2) Educate the general public about taxidermy and related professions
3) Assist members and the general public in their understanding and the applications of the state and federal fish and game laws
4) Aid in the conservation of natural resources for the future generations to enjoy.
Since the founding of the MTA, our membership has continued to grow and strive until the present date. The membership of the MTA consists of 25% of the states licensed taxidermists, making the MTA a powerful group within Michigan. The MTA works closely with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources with regards to laws governing the taxidermy in the state.
Through our yearly convention and competitions, our members have continually improved their skills and techniques. Our annual convention and competition is one of the biggest state based competitions in the nation. We draw elite judges and suppliers from all over the nation and provide our membership with outstanding opportunities to learn and develop their art.
By joining the MTA, you will have the opportunity to invest in your personnel skills and talents through the wide range of opportunities and people as part of your membership.
As a member of the Michigan Taxidermist Association, you will have the opportunity to meet and work with world renown experts and taxidermists. Our membership includes world champion taxidermists, sculptors for the major taxidermy suppliers, taxidermists that have supplied mounts for the Smithsonion Museum, industry experts in molding and casting, world leaders in habitat creation and many, many outstanding taxidermists. Every meeting is an opportunity to learn from the best.
